Hey all,

Just wanted to pop by and post my recently finished project. It's a Type 56 Assault Rifle used by the NVA in the Vietnam War.

2048 Diffuse, Norm, Spec. Rendered in Max with Xolioul Shader II

This is an extremely nice looking weapon, though the wood bothers me a bit, it's a bit too noisy for the subtlety of the metal, do you have any reference with wood like that as i can't find any, also your spec variation in the wood is a bit strong considering it is varnished and therefore should have an even spec across it (though I am not sure how it would react to heat and humidity and if that does strip varnish that's fair enough) some of the scratches look misplaced but I really do like this.

Here are a few of the main refs I used. Its pretty hard to find good references of this variant, and pretty much every ref I've seen has the wood pretty different in terms of color tone and grain. I wanted it to have a good amount of damage and wear, as it likely wouldn't be incredibly well cared for. Regarding the wood spec, it will be cleaned up some more once I put it in engine.

Can you elaborate a bit on the scratches you think are misplaced?

New here but thought I would post a comment on this and please don't take this the wrong way, unfortunately the butt end of your stock is wrong, it would appear that you have modelled after the mahy airsoft replicas that exist as the real steel butt is straight vertical and not angled as yours is. This is a farly common mistake but I assume you are going for accuracy.

The receiver, barrell and magazine appear spot on. If you lighten the would texture to be more yellow and lessen the grain as well as fixing the butt stock issue it would be spot on.

Thanks for the crit Andrew. Accuracy is the name of the game.

Do you have any good ref of the buttstock issue? Good photos of this weapon are already hard to find and I can't seem to get a good image of that portion, or the pics look like it is angled like I have done.

That's the problem with the 56, there doesn't seem to be a lot of good accurate refs about, I do know one of the Japanese Airsoft manufacturers was making one, let me see if they have released any images yet and I will get back to you.
