[Environment- Sci Fi Starship] The Heart of Ganymede

    Hello All,

For my first NGHS post I decided I'd post an environment I did a couple of weeks ago. This was my first endeavour into UDK.

Essentially it's the corridor of a deserted ship known as the Heart of Ganymede. Inspired by some of 2001: A Space Oddessy and Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers and Space Cadet.

I have a few breakdown shots - to explain my process.

I initally built the environment using my high poly peices to figure out placement in Max.

I started importing my assets into UDK, but I had over compensated for texture saturation which gave the environment a really harsh blue glow.

I was also unfamilar with vertex painting, so I kind of dropped the ball on the grunge, so I tried to clean it up, but in the end some of the texture seams are still a little obvious, so I had a really good experience learning.

And here are some of the final renders from UDK:

I really hope these autothumbnail, or I'd feel bad. But, please tell me what you think. I'm excited to join the NGHS community!
I love comments and critique, never be afraid to tell me what you really think.

This is nice work I like it . I think my eyes were darting around looking for a focal point to begin with though. The scene is quite busy and has a lot in it trying to grab my attention. Maybe consider on your next project toning down the colours in areas that are less important to the player/viewer and then using the stronger colours for the points of interest. Fzd school have some great composition tips for painting that can easily translate to game environments and screen shots. Check out his videos if you havent already :http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1McYZX6KScg Hope this helps

Hey, Thanks a lot for the critique, it's really cool to get some feedback. I'm glad you like it, and I'll make sure to watch those videos to help me with my composition and color in the scene. Thank you very much!
