    M416

Hey all, first post here on NGHS. I'm currently working on a H&K 416 that i'm going to have modded with all kinds of aftermarket parts, laser, tac light, and sights. In the high poly stage and wanted to know what you all think. Still have work to do on the upper receiver (mainly around the ejection port) and next on the list will be the charging handle and the buttstock.

Been out of action for a few months but I actually have time now to sit down and work. Finished the charging handle, upper receiver block, butt stock, ejection port cover, and some minor tweeks here and there all in the last day. Just need to add some detail to the bolt and work on all the attachments and it's on to the low poly. Crits and comments always welcome.

    FPS shot for fun

You've got the wrong pistol grip for a 416, 416's come with a Tango down pistol grip. Also wrong stock and magazine, they are supplied with an HK Crane stock not a magpul stock and the magazines are standard M4, not PMAG.

Here's a link to HK's page on the 416, notice also the more rounded block above and forward of the bolt release: http://www.hk-usa.com/military_produ...16_general.asp

To Andrew: Thanks for the crits. However I mentioned in my first post I am putting many after market parts on this rifle. Many of which I own and have used out in the real world. I did notice the rounded housing you mentioned and also got many crits from the folks on polycount and have made corrections.

New update. For the last few days I have been making major and minor adjustments to the core m416 to really nail down the details compared to actual references. Things I've added are the screw for the buffer tube and indention under the rail for the upper receiver. Adjustments are numerous but everything I can see is in proportion to real life reference, rail has been completely remade with the indention at the bottom and a proper cutout for the bi-pod hole, holes for the buttstock, and many smoothing corrections. Also added an AO pass in the render shots to show off the details.

    Crits and comments always welcome

Ah, I see it now, you're going with a MIAD pistol grip and a CTR Stock, which I also have owned. Nice kit magpul if a tad expensive

Can I ask if you are adding the Magpul MBUS and what scope are you putting on this (if any)?

Carry on and de oppresso liber!

To Andrew: As far as irons go, I'm going with the Troy Industries folding battle sights. I like the Mbus sights but I don't like how large they are on the rifle (purely looks). Other items include an EOtech 553 (on of the older models but I like it's overall looks on a rifle), duel Surfire Executive Tac Lights, PEQ-15 with pressure switch, and the Magpul AFG.

Quick update, front and rear sights done

That's cool, I've often wondered what one of these at rifle length (not CQB) would look like with a UBR stock....something to think about

A lot of the edges seem very sharp, are you going to soften this when baking the normals for the low poly?

It's looking good though, curves are clean and the details are nice.

Looking really nice, but just like Logithx said, the edges are really sharp, they will look funky on your normals if you keep them like this.

I could not have done a better job man!
